GHS golfers cut strokes in final round

YANTIS, Texas -- Improved weather conditions helped the Greenville Lions and Lady Lions improve their scores during Tuesday's final round of the District 13-4A golf tournament at The Links at Land's End.

The Lions, who fired a 402 on Monday during chilly and windy conditions, cut 20 strokes off their scores during a sunny Tuesday to finish with a 784 team score. They were seventh in the team standings trailing Texas High (645), Sulphur Springs (651), Sherman (664), Royse City (695), Mount Pleasant (704) and Denison (723).

Ryan Litchfield improved 11 strokes from Monday with an 84 to lead the Lions at 179. Next for the Lions' team was William Strickland with rounds of 93 and 90 for a 183 total. Jarrett Forst carded scores of 102 and 105 for a 207. James Vaughn shot rounds of 112 and 111 for a 223. Cody Labove shot scores of 124 and 103 for a 227.

Kyle Crumpton, competing as a medalist for the Lions shot rounds of 121 and 102 for a 223. Tavis McDaniel, also competing as a medalist, shot scores of 147 and 131 for a 278.

The Lady Lions cut 21 strokes off Monday's score with a 494 for a 1009 total. They finished fifth behind Sulphur Springs (746), Texas High (822), Sherman (869) and Denison (890).

Tiffani Tanner fired a 119 on Tuesday to lead the Lady Lions with a 247 total. Sara Matlock and Kally Duncan both carded 256 totals for 36 holes. Lexie Dick wound up with a 257. Hannah Bench fired a 264.

The top two teams and qualifying individuals will advance to the Region II-4A tournaments in Denton.
