Williams leads Lions at district golf meet

ROWLETT -- Greenville senior Michael Williams fired a 79 to
lead the Lions during Wednesday’s opening round of the
District 10-4A golf tournament.
Williams carded two birdies to finish at seven over par at the
Waterview Golf Club, the site of today’s final round that
begins at 9 a.m. Williams trails the co-leaders, Marshall
Perry and Michael Lee from Highland Park 2, by six shots in
the race for top medalist honors.
Greenville carded a 362 to rank 11th of 12 teams. Highland
Park 2 leads with a 299 while Richardson Pearce ranks second
at 305 and Highland Park 1 is third with a 309.
The top two teams and two medalists will advance to the Region
II-4A tournament at Robson Ranch in Denton.
Austin Stanphill was the Lions’ next low shooter with an 87.
Jarrett Forst fired a 97, Ryan Litchfield managed a 99 and
Levi Hicks-Reyes finished with a 122. Zach Gibson, competing
for Greenville as a medalist, fired a 102.
Royse City’s Bulldogs rank sixth in the team standings with a
329. Denton Garcia led the Bulldogs with a 79. Cameron Mims
was next with an 80, followed by Zach Huddin (83), Dakota West
(85) and Alex Williams (90).
