GREENVILLE -- Greenville’s Lions kept it close for a quarter before giving way in a 55-3 loss to Frisco Liberty on Friday night at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium.

Liberty led only 7-3 after one quarter but then scored 17, 21 and 10 points over the final three periods to square its season record at 1-1.

Liberty quarterback Zach Smith went 12-of-20 passing for 162 yards, including touchdown passes of 29 yards to Jeremy Embry, 13 yards to Trey Johnson and 10 to Rondrick Hall.

Liberty running back Aaron Estes pounded out 79 yards on 13 carries, while Michael Kamra ran for 75 yards on eight carries, including a 17-yard touchdown run.

Lewis Hill also dashed 65 yards with a lateral from Smith for a Redhawk touchdown.

Liberty defender Bobby Johnson scored his team’s final touchdown on a 101-yard interception return with 2:11 remaining.

The Lions, who were outgained 420-230 in total yardage, dropped to 0-3 heading into their bye week.

Liberty took the opening drive 66 yards in seven plays. Smith’s 19-yard touchdown pass to Johnson got called back due to holding. The Redhawks got the touchdown two plays later on Smith’s 29-yard strike to Embry on a skinny post. J.B. McBride’s kick made it 7-0.

The Lions answered with a drive from their 41 to the Redhawk five. Jeffro Davis ran 22 yards for one first down. Quarterback Shay Sellers kept for a 10-yard gain and running back Justin Casselberry powered ahead for 13 yards. The drive stalled at the five. Zachery Halverson then booted a 22-yard field goal to make it 7-3 with 5:56 left in the first period.

That would be the Lions’ only points as they finished with 152 yards rushing and 78 passing. Casselberry led the Lion rushers with 51 yards on 12 carries. Sellers ran for 45 yards on eight carries and was 9-of-15 passing for 41 yards.
