GREENVILLE -- When you average 20.6 points per game, coaches notice.
That’s the story for Greenville senior Devonte Green, who earned one of the top honors on the All-District 10-4A basketball team. Green, who ranked fifth in the Metroplex among Class 4A scorers, shared offensive player of the year honors in 10-4A with Pierre Hayden of Royse City. Hayden averaged 19.6 points per game for the Bulldogs.
Green also averaged 8.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the 16-17 Lions, who qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
Three more Lions made the first or second teams.
Junior Byron Mack was selected to the first team, seniors Ladarrain Green and N.J. Mason earned second-team honors.
Lions Cal Crabtree, Alton Dennis, Dijoun Sheppard and Manon Steward were on the honorable mention list.
Newman Smith seniors Randall Joyner and Al Lasker, who helped the Trojans repeat as district champions, shared most valuable player honors.
Richardson Pearce senior Brooks Vehslage claimed the defensive player of the year award.
The newcomer of the year honor went to Richardson Pearce sophomore Darius Revels.
